On Wednesday, Dec 16 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, we will be hosting an evening with Michael R. Gaudet, reading from his new book Dancing with Rejection: A Beginner’s Guide to Immortality, the first in a trilogy of memoirs.
The launch will be hosted at Turning the Tide’s new location at 615 Main St. on Wednesday, December 16th at 7:00pm.
The first volume of Gaudet’s memoir, to be launched at the event, begins with his journey through diagnosis with end-stage renal failure in 1979 at age 19. Thanks to a kidney transplant donated by his brother, Michael thrived and later rose to prominence as a painter of monumental Canadian murals.
Dancing with Rejection: A Beginner’s Guide to Immortality chronicles the untimely death of Michael’s loving father, our hero’s own near death experience, and his bohemian lifestyle in the Canada of the 1970s and 80s. A cast of eccentric characters weaves us in and out of lusty tales of romance, gritty medical dramas, and encounters with the paranormal. Written like his murals, in large, bright swaths of sweeping narrative, this is a cosmic joy ride of a read. Three decades after Gaudet’s initial transplant, he is faced with the need for another kidney transplant. The Manitou Beach-based author has been travelling to Saskatoon three times a week for dialysis while awaiting a donor. He has used the time receiving dialysis to write his memoirs. Michael Gaudet is currently seeking a living kidney donor.
About the Author: Michael Gaudet designed and painted the seminal mural Recovery 1, which he donated to the Toronto hospital that saved his life. This singular act forged a career as one of Canada’s best-known mural painters. Michael has since designed and painted over 60 large murals across Canada. Today, Michael lives with his wife Sharon in the resort village of Manitou Beach in central Saskatchewan, where they own and operate a seasonal art gallery called G-G’s Gallery & Gifts.
